ITA Player Profile: Robin Anderson, UCLA

Robin Anderson of UCLA won the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships singles title and finished the 2012-2013 season ranked fourth in the ITA Division I Singles Rankings. She earned ITA All-American honors for both singles and doubles during her sophomore year. During her current junior season, Robin was runner up at both the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships and 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. She has been ranked No. 1 in both singles and doubles during the 2013-2014 season. The ITA chatted with Robin as she prepared to defend her title at the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship singles title to find out a little more about her life off the court.


How does it feel to be back in Flushing?
Pretty good, I’m playing back at home.

How old were you when you started playing tennis?
I was five years old.

How did you get into tennis?
My dad.  My dad used to play for fun and he decided to get me out there, and have me try to play with him.

What’s your earliest memory of playing tennis?
This is going to sound really weird, but when I was first starting to play, my dad was teaching me my strokes, so I kind of learned to play tennis in my house.

Who did you look up to growing up in terms of tennis?
Remember growing up my favorite player was Martina Hingis.  As I got older my favorite player was Justine Henin.

If you could play tennis against any other player in history, who would it be?Robin Anderson - Riviera
I really wanted to play Justine Henin.

Where would we find you off the court, what sort of activities would you be doing?

Probably either listening to music or shopping.

What’s your favorite song on your IPod right now?
I kind of listen to a bit of everything thing, so it’s tough to pick.

Do you do any pre-match rituals?
I used to, but then I kind of lost my iPod, so I can’t really do that anymore.

What’s the first you ever went to?
Last year I went to my first concert; I went to see a reggae band called Rebelution in LA.

What show do you DVR the most?
I don’t really watch a lot of TV, but I’d say my favorite shows are NCIS and The Big Bang Theory.

What is something you really need to stop eating?

What is your favorite shot on the court?
My serve.

What has been your favorite or funniest moment of your college tennis career thus far?
I would say my favorite moment would be winning Indoors here last year that was pretty awesome.
