ITA Player Profile: Kaitlyn Christian, USC

A three-time doubles ITA All-American, USC senior Kaitlyn Christian and her partner Sabrina Santamaria became the first women’s team to successfully complete the triple-crown, which consists of winning the three major tournaments throughout the year. The pair won the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2013 NCAA Women’s Doubles Championship. Their NCAA title was USC’s first women’s title in school history. They finished the season with a staggering 37-1 overall record which ultimately led to the No. 1 overall ranking in the ITA NCAA Division I Doubles Rankings. The ITA spoke with Kaitlyn during the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships to find out more about her favorite things off and on the court.


How old were you when you first started playing tennis?
I was about 7 or 8

What is your earliest memory of watching or playing the game?
I played soccer before I played tennis, and I liked soccer better, and I’m still unsure of why I picked tennis!

Cruise by Florida Georgia Line. I’m a huge fan of country. None of my teammates like it but I’ll solo that song any day!

Christian and Santamaria Take Title

My spandex. I wear those every single day. I get made fun of but that’s okay. They are pretty comfortable.

Who did you look up to most in tennis growing up? Why?
Martina Hingis. She was my favorite player. I loved her game style and I always looked up to her. She was a grinder and she’s very smart on the court.

What's your favorite shot on court?
My forehand drop sot.

When I'm off the court you will find me...
Doing something sports related, basketball, swimming or volleyball. I’m actually on the intramural soccer team at our school.
