Kevin AndersonNEW YORK - Former Illini and world No. 77 Kevin Anderson captured his first career Grand Slam win Monday evening, as he topped No. 98 Somdev Devvarman, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the 2010 US Open. Anderson will next face No. 28 Thomaz Bellucci, who reached the round of 16 at the French Open earlier this year.

The South Africa native is the lone Illini competing in singles, as Rajeev Ram and Amer Delic both fell in the first round of qualifying play last week. It was Delic's first match back since a knee injury and subsequent surgery had kept him sidelined since July 2009.

Two Illini will be in action Tuesday in doubles at the US Open. Ram, currently ranked No. 40 in doubles, and teammate Bobby Reynolds will take on Stephen Huss and Andre Sa, while Ryler DeHeart and Brian Battistone are scheduled to battle Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-UL-Haq Qureshi. Anderson also will be competing in doubles with teammate Victor Hanescu.
