BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The ITA/USTA National Summer Championships wrapped up the third day of competition in Bloomington on Monday.
Men’s and women’s singles draws are down to the semifinals and will be played at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The No. 1 overall seed Francis Altick from Vanderbilt reached the final with a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (8) victory over Terri Fleming and will be matched up against No. 5-8 seed Emily Zabor from Alabama. In the other semifinal Astra Sharma from Vanderbilt will meet Natalie Maynetto from Alabama.
On the men’s side Indiana rising junior Sam Monette advanced to the semifinal with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rob Galloway from Wofford College. Monette will take on Nathan Rakitt from Georgia Tech for a spot in the final. In the bottom half of the bracket Harrison O’Keefe from South Carolina advanced with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Alex Knight from Michigan. O’Keefe will take on No. 2 seed Zach McCourt from Princeton in that semifinal.
In the doubles, the final match is set and will be played at 10:00 a.m. The match will feature Lawson/Pecor from Notre Dame, who won 8-5 in their semifinal, against Emhardt/Schorsch from Valparaiso. In women’s doubles Crawford/Ng from Dartmouth will take on Katz/Westby from Southern California, also at 10:00 a.m.
A pair of Hoosiers will contend in the final of the respective consolation final matches. Sophomore and Bloomington native Matthew McCoy advanced to the final with a 6-4, 6-4 semifinal win. On the women’s side senior Katie Klyczek advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
