Duke, Ohio State atop new ITA Division I Team Rankings

Buckeyes back on top of men's rankings after two weeks at No. 2

SKILLMAN, NJ (April 1) - The Ohio State men are back on top of the ITA Division I Men's Rankings while the Duke women remained in the No. 1 position of the ITA Division I Women's Rankings.  

 

The Buckeyes improved their record to 21-1 this season after a pair of ranked wins last week, including a 5-2 victory over No. 10 Illinois. Meanwhile, the Blue Devil women improved their record to 18-1 with three wins last week, including a 5-2 victory over No. 11 Northwestern. Duke is 18-1 this spring with its only loss coming to Virginia in February.

 

The Texas Longhorns were a big mover on the men's side, moving up five spots to No. 6 after its 4-3 upset of No. 3 Oklahoma. Alabama also saw a big jump, moving up 16 spots to No. 29 this week after its 4-2 win over No. 13 Kentucky and 4-1 victory over No. 26 Vanderbilt. Virginia Tech also moved up 16 places to land at No. 38 this week on the heels of its ranked wins over No. 24 Florida State and No. 39 Miami (Florida).

 

On the women's side, the Georgia women leaped seven spots to No.2 after defeating No. 7 Texas A&M, 4-0. Other big movers this week include South Carolina, up 21 spots to No. 44 after a pair of ranked wins over No. 45 Arkansas and No. 49 LSU. Louisville also moved up 18 places to No. 49.

 

Follow the Leader: For the men, Ohio State is followed by (in order): USC, UCLA, Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas A&M. On the women's side, Duke is followed by Georgia, UCLA, Stanford, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Texas A&M.

 

Conference Count: Men's Top 25: ACC and SEC - 6; Big 12 - 4; Pac-12 and Big Ten - 3; AAC, Ivy League and MWC - 1. The Big 12 has three teams in the Top 10, while the ACC, Pac 12 and SEC each have two while the Big 10 has one. Women's Top 25: SEC - 7; ACC - 6; Pac 12 - 5; Big 12 - 4; Big Ten - 2; Conference USA - 1. The SEC has five teams ranked in the women's Top 10, while the ACC has three and Pac 12 two.

 

Double-Dip: This week, 15 schools have both their men's and women's programs ranked inside the Top 25.

Top 25 Caliber:  Two teams moved into the Top 25 this week, both for the first time in the 2013-14 season. The South Florida men jumped from No. 31 to No. 25 after winning its fourth straight ranked match. On the women's side, Ole Miss also has won four straight matches against ranked opponents, and the team moved to No. 24, up two spots.
