SKILLMAN, NJ (March 20) - In the first ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Team Rankings of the spring season, the ASA College men and Tyler Junior College women claimed the top spots. ASA unseated the Tyler Junior College men's team, who had held the top spot since March 7, 2013.

ASA earned its first ever No. 1 ranking by besting the Apaches 6-3 on Saturday. The Avengers sport a 10-1 overall record, with their only loss coming at the hands of Division I's Morehead State in a tight 4-3 loss. ASA swept doubles to take an early 3-0 lead, then split the singles matches to complete the upset.

Also making a move toward the top on the men's side is No. 10 Mesa, who is 7-1 on the season while playing a mixed bag of opposition. The Thunderbirds have played teams from four different divisions, with their only loss coming to Division II's Western New Mexico. Georgia Perimeter jumped four spots to No. 6 with wins over No. 20 Middle Georgia State, No. 7 ABAC and No. 23 Gadsden State as part of their 4-0 record.

With no losses to junior/community college competition thus far this season, the Tyler women's team holds its No. 1 post, where the Apaches have stood since April 16, 2010. The four-time defending champions were recently tested by ASA, but pulled out the 6-3 win on March 15.

Both Broward (No. 6) and Hillsborough (No. 10) made eight-spot increases in the ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Team Rankings. The Seahawks bested three Top 20 opponents, including Hillsborough, and played No. 4 St. Petersburg close on two occasions to warrant the move. The Lady Hawks also took out three Top 20 teams to garner their appearance in the Top 10.

California Junior/Community Colleges also produced national team rankings, with Fresno City College and College of the Desert topping the men's Northern and Southern regions, respectively. On the women's side, Sierra College and Santa Monica College are the No. 1 teams in Northern and Southern California, respectively. In addition to national rankings, the JuCo men also released regional rankings this week.

Follow the Leader: For the women, Tyler is followed by (in order): Georgia Perimeter, ASA, St. Petersburg, State College of Florida, Broward, North Central Texas, Collin, Cowley and Hillsborough. On the men's side, ASA is followed by Laredo, Tyler, Seminole, Collin, Georgia Perimeter, ABAC, Vincennes, Cowley and Mesa.
