Duke, Ohio State Claim Top ITA Division I Team Rankings 

Ohio State men jump four spots to claim No. 1 ranking

 

  

SKILLMAN, NJ (Feb. 18) - The Duke women and Ohio State men sit atop the ITA Division I Team Rankings, both having won a ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championship in February. Ohio State claims the top rankings for the first time since Feb. 10, 2009, unseating Virginia for the first time this season. Duke remains at No. 1 for the second week in a row.

 

Follow the Leader: For the men, Ohio State is followed by (in order): USC, Virginia, UCLA, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M, California and Notre Dame. On the women's side, Duke is followed by UCLA, Stanford, California, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Northwestern, USC, and Texas A&M.

 

Conference Count: Men's Top 25: SEC - 8; ACC - 5; Big 12 - 4; Pac-12 - 3; Big Ten - 2; AAC, WCC and Ivy League - 1. Four different conferences are represented in the Top 5 alone. Women's Top 25: ACC - 7; SEC - 6; Pac 12 - 4; Big 12 - 4; Big Ten - 2, and Conference USA - 2. All four Pac-12 teams ranked in the top 25 are inside the top 10 this week, while both the SEC and ACC has three teams each in the top 10.

 

Double-Dip: This week, 15 schools have both their men's and women's programs ranked inside the Top 25.

Top 25 Caliber: Two men's teams broke into the Top 25 this week. North Carolina improved five spots thanks to wins over TCU (No. 35), Louisville (No. 48) and Illinois (No. 14). Oklahoma State also continued its ascent after starting the season unranked, claiming the No. 25 spot this week. On the women's side, the University of Tulsa enters the top 25 for the first time this season, on the heels of a 7-1 start to the spring season.

 

Top 75 Newcomers: Six teams entered the ITA Division I Team Rankings this week. The only addition on the men's side is South Florida, who shot up to No. 56 with wins over No. 62 Miami and No. 55 Texas Tech to remain undefeated at 5-0.

 

On the women's side, five teams joined the Top 75. The highest new entry was No. 59 Washington State, who scored 5-2 wins over two ranked teams in defeating No. 65 San Diego and No. 66 Fresno State. Marshall entered at No. 70 after defeating No. 57 Penn State, Brigham Young is at No. 71 after its big 6-1 win over No. 50 Denver. Nicholls State (No. 72) and Idaho (No. 73) are also new additions.
