SKILLMAN, NJ (Feb. 11) - A major shakeup in the ITA Women's Team Rankings occurred following the conclusion of the 2014 ITA Division I National Women's Team Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Virginia at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. By virtue of winning the title, the Duke Blue Devils vaulted from No. 10 to No. 1 this week, eclipsing the Stanford Cardinal. Runner-up UCLA moved up to No. 3, followed by Cal and Florida rounding out the Top 5. Northwestern had the biggest jump amongst the top teams, rising from No. 16 to No. 7 after its run to the semifinals in Charlottesville. Virginia cracked the top 10 for the first time this season, moving from No. 14 to No. 10.

 

Follow the Leader: Following Duke in the ITA Women's Team Rankings is (in order): Stanford, UCLA, Cal, Florida, North Carolina, Northwestern, Georgia, USC and Virginia. 

Conference Count: Women's Top 25: ACC - 7, SEC - 6; Pac-12 - 5, Big 12 - 4, Big 10 - 2 and Conference USA - 1.  Four of the five Pac-12 teams ranked in the top 25 are inside the top 10 this week, while both the SEC and ACC have three teams each in the top 10.

New Additions: Four teams have cracked the ITA Women's Team Rankings for the first time this season, while another has moved into the Top 25 in this week's rankings. Wake Forest (No. 61) ousted then No. 44 VCU last weekend, while Wichita State (No. 62) upset both No. 42 Illinois and No. 55 Fresno State. Also new to the Top 75 is Houston, who is tied for 66 on the heels of beating No. 63 North Texas. No. 70 Kansas joins the rankings after knocking out then No. 35 Nebraska. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners moved up four spots to No. 24 in the nation, cracking the Top 25 for the first time this season. 

No men's team rankings were released this week as the 2014 ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship, hosted by Texas A&M University at The Downtown Club at the Met and the Galleria Athletic and Tennis Club, is set to begin Friday, February 14.

ITA Singles and Doubles Rankings
Updated women's and men's singles and doubles rankings were also released today. On the women's side, Jamie Loeb of North Carolina, who is 26-2 overall this year, moved into the top spot for the first time in her collegiate career. Robin Anderson of UCLA moved down a spot to No. 2 while Beatrice Capra, who beat both Loeb and Anderson at the 2014 ITA Division I National Women's Team Indoor Championship, remains at No. 3. No. 4 Julia Elbaba of Virginia and No. 5 Kristie Ahn of Stanford round out the Top 5.

 

USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship doubles winners Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey of Georgia Tech moved up to No. 1 in the doubles rankings. UCLA's Anderson and Jennifer Brady dipped down a spot to No. 2, and Virginia's Elbaba and Rachel Pierson leaped from No. 8 to No. 3. Duke's Capra and Hanna Mar debuted in the rankings at No. 6.

 

For the men, UCLA's Clay Thompson remains the top-ranked singles player, while the Tennessee duo of Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese are still ranked first in doubles.

 

Both UCLA and Oklahoma have two singles players in the Top 5 of the ITA Singles Rankings. For the Bruins, Marcos Giron moved up to No. 5 after winning the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, where he beat teammate Thompson (No. 1) in the final. Sooner Guillermo Alcorta, who won all of his six matches this spring without dropping a set, jumped three spots to No. 2. He is joined in the Top 5 by teammate Axel Alvarez, who is 21-3 this season and 4-0 in the spring.

 

The Tennessee pair of Libietis and Reese is 19-2 on the year, picking up eight wins in as many tries during the spring. Ohio State's Kevin Metka and Peter Kobelt jumped up five spots to No. 2, while Florida State's Marco Nunez and Benjamin Lock also improved five positions, as they are now ranked No. 5.
