29th annual ITA Coaches Convention kicks off Friday
Bollettieri, Mainz among clinic presenters
NAPLES, FL (Dec. 12) -- More than 300 college coaches from NCAA, NAIA and Junior College teams will be attending the 29th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Coaches Convention this Friday, December 13 to Monday, December 16 at the Waldorf Astoria Naples in Naples, Florida.
The ITA Coaches Convention is one of the best professional development opportunities for collegiate tennis coaches today, and will provide coaches with the opportunity to receive continuing education, participate in important association business meetings and serve as leaders in promoting the growth of varsity college tennis.
The Convention kicks off on Friday with the USTA Junior Showcase, a tennis tournament held on the clay courts of the Waldorf Astoria Naples. The Showcase will feature some of Florida's most talented junior players hoping to catch the eyes of the attending coaches.
Throughout the weekend, coaches will be treated to workshops led by some of the biggest names in the sport. Among the featured clinic presenters are world-class coach and player developer Nick Bollettieri plus 2013 Wilson/ITA National Division I Coaches of the Year Jenny Mainz (Alabama women) and Sam Winterbotham (Tennessee men).
In addition to offering clinics, panel discussions, an awards banquet, a trade show and a chance to exchange ideas, the ITA Coaches Convention is also the venue for the association's annual meetings, which includes ITA Operating Committee, Divisional Roundtable and General Membership sessions.Roger Crawford, the 2013 ITA Achievement Award winner, will speak at the General Membership meeting on Saturday morning. Crawford is a highly sought after motivational speaker and best-selling author.
A highlight each year at the ITA Coaches Convention is the ITA Membership and Awards Banquet. On Sunday evening, Winterbotham, Mainz and their fellow Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year winners from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges will be honored for their achievements during the 2012-2013 season.
In addition, Francie Barragan of Methodist University and Dwayne Hultquist of Florida State University will receive the 2013 USTA/ITA National Campus and Community Outreach Awards. The ITA will also present the ITA Collegiate Varsity Performer of the Year Award to Bonnie Vona of the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section and the ITA Collegiate Varsity Volunteer of the Year Award to Roberta Feldman, a volunteer from the USTA Eastern Section.
Kathy Rinaldi will serve as the keynote speaker at the ITA Awards Banquet, courtesy of Wilson Sporting Goods. Rinaldi, a former Top 10 player in both singles and doubles, was coach of the U.S. Fed Cup team under Captain Zina Garrison from 2006 to 2008, and has served as the Touring Pro at the Breakers of Palm Beach, FL, for 10 years.
