UWA Men’s Tennis Team aims to break Guinness record for longest doubles marathon
to benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The current record is 56 hours, 37 minutes, and 13 seconds. The team is looking to raise $1,000,000 for Cystic Fibrosis in a short amount of time, and four members of the UWA team will participate in the event. The team’s cause will be UWA student Libby Hankins, who has Cystic Fibrosis:
My name is Libby Hankins. While I was born with CF; I was not diagnosed until I was two years old. I was fortunate that my family made my health a priority, but at the same time, they made sure I lived as normal life as possible. There were always pils, IVs, Chest PT, surgeries and hospitalizations, but there were always friends, school, laughter and love. My mom used to tell me that I had to work through the things I hated to get the things I loved. I LOVE being at UWA, and nothing has been more rewarding to me than cheering for the tigers. Working around treatments can be overwhelming at times, but I know how precious life is, as I've seen how quickly it can be taken away. Since my freshman year at UWA, five girls whom I grew up with have passed away from CF. These girls were the strongest, most determined and deserving people I will ever know and I still think about them with every breath I take.
The world record attempt will take place starting from 7am on Friday November 15 at the University of West Alabama’s Tennis Complex.
