2011 Champ Mitchell Frank returns to quarterfinals at Saint Francis ITA Men's All-American Championships

TULSA, OK (Oct. 3) -  The quarterfinals of the 2013 Saint Francis ITA Men's All-American Championships are set, with 2011 champion Mitchell Frank of Virginia leading a trio of seeds still in contention.

Mitchell Frank of Virginia is the highest seed remaining at #12

In gusty conditions, Frank got off to a quick start in his match with Winston Lin of Columbia, winning the first seven

games. But the second set got a bit more interesting, especially when Frank accidentally ran into a scoreboard, requiring a medical time out after injuring his left hand.

The second set would turn into a battle, as despite chances to break at 3-3, Lin would take the Cavalier to a second set tiebreaker before Frank closed out the match in two sets. He said afterward that his opponent's play picked up in the second set.

"The first set I was playing great; in the first 7 games I was playing great, and then it kind of got a little tougher in the second set," he said. "I thought the medical time out was kind of a huge game changer for him but he played much better in the second for sure. "

Admitting the scoreboard injury was one of his stranger on-court injuries, the Cavalier said the injury didn't bother him too much during his doubles match (which he and partner Mac Styslinger lost 8-3) and that he'd hoped it wouldn't require stitches.

Frank, the highest seed now left at #12, next faces Jared Hiltzik, the 14th seed from Illinois. Though admitting many people consider him a favorite, he's taking things one match at a time. "I'm just trying to keep working on my game and get better with every match," he said. "All these guys are really good players so it's going to be a tough match regardless of who you play."

Georgia's Austin Smith fought off two match points on his way to the quarterfinals.

Baylor has two players in thequarterfinals, 13th seed Patrick Pradella and Julien Lenz, who ousted freshman qualifier Ronnie Schneider of North Carolina 6-3 4-6 6-2. Pradella battled from a set down to advance over Clarke Spinosa of University of San Diego 5-7 6-3 6-3 and he will face Oklahoma's Guillermo Alcorta in the quarterfinals.

Lenz will take on another freshman, and one of two qualifiers who made the quarterfinal stage in George Goldhoff of Texas. The Longhorn continued his run with his sixth straight victory in Tulsa with a straight set win over Oklahoma's Dane Webb, 6-2 6-4.

The other remaining qualifier, Austin Smith of Georgia, fought off two match points on his way to a win over Harrison Adams of Texas A&M 4-6 7-6 (7) 6-2. He'll play Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt on Saturday.

In doubles action, top seeds Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee won two matches to advance to the semifinals, and they'll face TCU's Nick Chappell and Will Stein. The other semifinal features a pair of qualifying teams as Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald of UCLA play

Andrew Harris and Dane Webb of Oklahoma.
