Auburn Montgomery Reigns Supreme in Final ITA NAIA College Tennis Rankings

Pinones, Curtis clinch top singles ranking while AUM tandems rank No. 1 in doubles

SKILLMAN, NJ (May 31) -- The final ITA NAIA College Tennis Rankings of the 2012-13 tennis season have been announced.  The NAIA singles and doubles rankings consist of the nation’s Top 50 singles players and Top 25 doubles teams.  Along with the national rankings, the NAIA regional rankings have also been announced, listing the Top 20 singles players and Top 10 doubles teams in the four ITA regions.

On the men’s side, Auburn Montgomery’s Nicolas Pinones owned the top singles ranking for a second straight ranking period.  Pinones finished the 2012-13 season with an impressive 21-1 overall singles record, leading the Warhawks to a runner-up finish at the 2013 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship.  Teammates Ben Toth and Tim Hewitt checked-in at the No. 1 spot in doubles, giving Auburn Montgomery the top singles and doubles team in the nation.  

Auburn Motgomery’s dominance continued on the women’s side as the Warhawks claimed the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles.  Jade Curtis is the top ranked singles player for a third consecutive ranking period after leading the Warhawks to a third straight NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship.  Curtis is also half of the top ranked doubles team along with partner, and 2012 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships divisional singles winner, Tiffany William.

Singles Conference Count: Men’s Top 25: GSAC & The Sun – 5; SSAC & Kansas Collegiate – 3; Gulf Coast, TranSouth & Wolverine-Hoosier – 2; Chicagoland, Mid-South & Independent – 1. All of the SSAC’s players ranked inside the Top 10 while the GSAC and The Sun had two players each. Women’s Top 25: SSAC – 7; The Sun – 5; Independent – 4; GSAC & Mid-South – 3; Chicagoland, Gulf Coast & Heart of America – 1.  The Sun Conference led all conferences with four players landing inside the Top 10 while the SSAC was close behind with three.
