Barry, Armstrong Atlantic Claim No. 1 Spots in ITA Division II College Tennis Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ (May 29) -- With the 2012-13 season coming to a close, the men of Barry University and the women of Armstrong Atlantic State University checked in at the No.1 spots in the final ITA Division II College Tennis Rankings.  Both teams finished their respective years by clinching NCAA titles.  Barry’s NCAA championship is its second in school history and also recorded the program’s first undefeated season (29-0).  On the women’s side, Armstrong Atlantic won their sixth NCAA title in eight years and set a NCAA Division II women’s record as they won their eighth championship in school history.

Follow the Leader: For the men, following Barry is (in order): Armstrong Atlantic, West Florida, Lynn, Hawaii Pacific, Concordia, Lander, Saint Leo, Rollins, and Columbus State.  For the women, following Armstrong Atlantic in order is BYU Hawaii, Barry, Hawaii Pacific, Abilene Christian, Columbus State, West Florida, Saint Leo, Lynn, and Rollins.

Conference Count: Men’s Top 25: Peach Belt – 7; Pac-West – 5; Lone Star & Sunshine State – 4; CACC, Gulf South, Independent, MIAA & Rocky Mountain – 1.  The Sunshine State leads all conferences with four teams ranking inside the Top 10 while the Peach Belt boasts three.  Women’s Top 25: Sunshine State – 7; Pac-West – 4; Peach Belt – 3; Gulf South, Independent & Lone Star – 2; East Coast Conference, Great Lakes Valley, Heartland, MIAA & PSAC – 1.  The Sunshine State had the most teams land inside the Top 10 with four while the Peach Belt and the Pac-West had two each.

Double-Dip: A total of 15 schools have their teams ranked inside the Top 25 of the final team ranking.  Armstrong Atlantic, Barry, Columbus State, Hawaii Pacific, Lynn, Rollins, Saint Leo, and West Florida all find their men’s and women’s programs inside the Top 10.
