UC Santa Cruz Men, Kansas State Women Receive April ITA National Team Sportsmanship Award

SKILLMAN, NJ (April 10) - The UC Santa Cruz men's and Kansas State University women's tennis teams have been honored as the recipients of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Sportsmanship Award for the month of April.

The ITA National Team Sportsmanship Award is a monthly award that goes to one men's and one women's team that has exemplified outstanding sportsmanship, character and ethical conduct in the true spirit of competition and collegiate tennis. The winners are selected by the ITA Ethics and Infractions Committee from nominations received from all ITA member institutions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges). This monthly award began in 2004.

The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, a NCAA Division III program, are coached by Bryce Parmelly. Parmelly is in his second season as the head coach of the UC Santa Cruz men's program.

The Kansas State University Wildcats, a NCAA Division I school, are led by head coach Steve Bietau. Bietau has been at the helm of the Kansas State women's program since 1984.

"There are so many teams out there that compete hard with great sportsmanship," stated Bietau. "For ours to be recognized like this is truly an honor."
