La Verne, Oberlin break into Top 30 of ITA Women's Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ (March 28) -- The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men and Amherst women have moved atop the latest ITA Division III College Tennnis Team Rankings. The Stags sit at 12-3 at this point in the season, taking over the No. 1 ranking after impressive defeats of Kenyon and Emory in consecutive days. CMS swept past the Lords 9-0 before taking down the Eagles 8-1 to claim the 2013 Stag-Hen Invitational Championship. The Jeffs most recently put together an impressive showing at the Emory Fab Seven Tournament, picking up 5-4 victories over the host Eagles and former No. 1 Johns Hopkins before recording a 5-0 sweep of Washington & Lee.

Follow the Leader: For the men, following CMS is (in order): Kenyon, Emory, Cal Lutheran, Williams, Bowdoin, Trinity (TX), Johns Hopkins, Middlebury, and UC Santa Cruz.  For the women, following Amherst is CMS, Emory, Johns Hopkins, Williams, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, Bowdoin, Middlebury, and Redlands.
 
Conference Count: Men's Top 30: NESCAC - 6; SCIAC and UAA - 5; Centennial - 2; Twelve other conferences placed one team in the Top 30 this week. Women's Top 30: NESCAC - 7; UAA - 6; SCIAC - 4; Liberty League, NEWMAC and NCAC - 2; Eight other conferences have one team in the Top 30.
 
Top 30 Caliber: Two women's teams have earned a national ranking this week after not appearing in the rankings previously. Both the La Verne and Oberlin squads just slipped into the rankings, currently sitting in a tie for No. 30.
 
Coming Up Next: The ITA Division III Rankings will be published again on Thursday, April 11th as regional team, singles and doubles as well as national team rankings will be announced.
