
Auburn Montgomery, Embry Riddle, and SCAD-Savannah Top ITA NAIA College Tennis Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ (Mar. 13) -- The first ITA NAIA College Tennis Rankings of 2013 have been announced. The NAIA singles and doubles rankings consist of the nation’s Top 50 singles players and Top 25 doubles teams. Along with the national rankings, the NAIA regional rankings have also been announced, listing the Top 20 singles players and Top 10 doubles teams in the region.
Top Flight Singles: With an overall record of 10-1, Patrick Besch of Embry Riddle is the top men’s singles player in this month’s rankings. Earlier this year, Besch claimed the 2012 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships NAIA singles title. On the women’s side, Auburn Montgomery’s Jade Curtis took over as the top ranked player. Curtis owns a 17-1 record this year, with her only loss coming from teammate Tiffany William, who is sitting at the No. 2 spot in this month’s rankings.
Top Flight Doubles: Auburn Montgomery’s doubles tandem of Tim Hewitt and Nicolas Pinones checked back in at the No. 1 doubles spot for the second consecutive ranking period. Earlier this season, the duo took home the 2012 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships NAIA doubles crown. Similar on the women’s side, SCAD-Savannah’s doubles pair of Theresa Schmaus and Maja Plavsic remained as the top team in the nation. Like the men, Schmaus and Plavsic also won the 2012 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships NAIA doubles title.
Singles Conference Count: Top 25 Men: GSAC – 7; SSAC – 4; Kansas Collegiate – 3; GCAC, Independent, The Sun Conference, & Wolverine-Hoosier – 2; Chicagoland, Mid-South, & TranSouth – 1. The GSAC boasts three players inside the Top 10 while the SSAC and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference have two each. Top 25 Women: SSAC – 6; The Sun Conference & GSAC – 4; Independent & Mid-South – 3; GCAC, Appalachian, Chicagoland, Heart of American & Mid Central – 1. The SSAC led the way with four players ranked inside the Top 10.
