Both UWW men's and women's teams were in action this weekend. For a

On Friday, the women's team traveled to Milwaukee to take on the D-1
UW-Milwaukee Panthers. In doubles UWM was very talented at #1 and took
down our #1 tandem of Schaefer/Bayliss 8-1. But at #2 and #3 the matches
were both very competitive. The Warhawks ended up losing two tight
decisons as Smith/Divelbiss lost in a tiebreak to Skemp/Gow and
Aguilar/Vitale lost to Kurer/Fritz. In singles the highlights were
Schaefer pushing the Panthers' top player Maddy Soule and Jackie Vitale
taking out Megan Gow at #6. Schaefer led in both sets3-2, but Soule
figured out a way to pull out each set. Vitale battled back from down
4-1 in the first set to win 7-6(3), 6-1 going away. Go to women's match vs UWM for all individual scores.
On Saturday the men hosted a pair of regional foes. In the morning the
took down Lake Forest 8-1. Our only loss was when we moved our #3 team
of Scanlan/Friend up to #2 who lost in a tiebreak. Rademacher/Laktash
had another dominating performance at #3 winning 8-1. Balkin played
flawlessly against Kreis (a top regional player) winning 6-1, 6-2.
Against Carthage Balkin continued on his day of tough draws. He first
teamed with Osborne and lost a tough 8-6 decison to Lotz/Hazelman who
have not lost all semester. He then took down regionally ranked Jeff
Lotz 7-6(2), 7-5 in a match where both players where showcasing some
solid play. At #2 and #3 the Warhawks were equally impressive with
Bayliss (avenging two losses from last season to Hazelman) and McGlashen
taking out opponent that have been winning all season long. Scanlan
was able to come back after losing his first set to win 6-1 in the third
set. Go to men's matches vs Lake Forest and Carthage for all the individual scores of the two matches.
It was a terrific day. Between matches on Saturday, we went to Lake
Geneva for a nice lunch on the lakefront. Some of the women were along
supporting the guys, so it was a fun time. After the Carthage match the
men and women hustled back to campus and watched the Men's Basketball
team win before a raucous crowd at home to advance to the Final 4 NCAA
D-3 championships! They will head to Salem, Virginia (where our
Football team recently won the national title) this upcoming weekend for
the final 2 games! To see what the atmosphere was like go to: UWW Hoops advance to final 4
Up next for the Warhawk Tennis Teams: Both men and women will take on the D-1 UW-Badgers at noon on Saturday, March 17.
The match will be at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, WI. We hope
you can make it down to cheer on the Warhawks. It is a great chance to
see both teams together taking on obviously great competition! If you
coach tennis, this would be a great opportunity to bring a group of
youngsters to watch a match in an exciting environment. If you are a
recruit, what a great way to see the team play. Please help spread the
word to come to Nielsen on Saturday to watch some college team tennis!
Feel free to forward this along to your tennis friends and USTA buddies.
GO WARHAWKS!
