With a 6-3 win over Grace College, the men's tennis team remained unbeaten in match play and claimed the MCC regular season championship.

The #1 combo of Augusto Velez and Vlad Khudziy picked up an 8-5 win in doubles action to remain undefeated on the season. Vlad Khudziy along with teammates Jose Hungria and Jameel Brenneman left their mark in singles play by going 7-1 against MCC opponents.

Huntington is 8-0 heading into the ITA Midwest Regionals scheduled for Sept. 23-25.

FRESHMAN VLADISLAV KHUDZIY WINS ITA MIDWEST REGIONALS

The Foresters competed in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Midwest Regional Championships at Aquinas College over the weekend.  Freshman Vladislav Khudizy stormed through the three-day tournament as the six seed winning six consecutive matches to bring home the men’s singles championship.

In the finals he mounted a come-from-behind win to take down top-seeded Felipe Bedon from Taylor University in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5.  Khudizy will compete in the ITA National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.   The singles championship will bring together the best eight players in small college tennis from around the United States.  The tournament will be held October 14-17.

In other Huntington matches, seventh-seeded Augusto Velez made it to the third round of the tournament before losing to #5 seed Aram Karapetyan (Robert WU) 6-2, 6-3. Jose Hungria worked his way through the consolation draw where he lost to #10 seeded Juan Cardenas (UNOH) 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the finals. The Khudizy/Velez duo won their first three matches in doubles play before succumbing to Aquinas' Artaev/Hendrick 8-1 in semi-final action.
