Q&A with Erica Perkins: Campus Showdowns
They are going on now - and at a college near you. Campus Showdowns - one-day, short-format tournaments that take place on college campuses across America - are open to everyone from juniors and amateurs to college players and professionals. These tournaments give junior players a unique chance to check out college - as well as the level of competition. Campus Showdowns: What are they?

One-day, short format tournaments open to juniors, college players, professionals and adults. Generally draws are compass draws for both singles and doubles with matches being one set with a tiebreaker at 5-5, although format and scoring is at the discretion of the director. Events can be men’s, women’s, or coed.

The tournaments are run on college campuses with the college coach acting as tournament director. Both ITA Membership and USTA Organizational Membership are required

No officials needed.

Entry Fees are kept low to provide access to full range of players. Generally entry fees run $10 for singles, $5 for doubles, and $15 for both.

These tournaments are non-sanctioned, non-ranking events.
The Role of the USTA’s office of Junior and Collegiate Competition:

Provide staff support to handle questions and paperwork.

Coordinate dates with USTA Sectional Staff liaison.

Connect College Coaches to Sectional Staff.

Promote events on USTA Sectional websites.

Promote events on the USTA National website in the collegiate and junior sections.

Provide a stipend of $150 after completion of event--maximum one stipend per team per school year.

The stipend is provided to keep entry fees affordable for all participants.
The Role of the College Coach:

Serve as tournament director taking entries and making the draw.

Assist USTA staff in event promotion.

Ensure the events are run according to NCAA and NAIA rules.

Provide the facility and the balls.

Forward draws to USTA National office upon completion.
