(1) Pepperdine, (2) Cal, (3) Alabama, (4) San Diego
Pepperdine (No. 12) may have lost its top player from last season, but the Waves still have two players ranked in the Top 60 with Alex Sarkissian at No. 33 and David Sofaer at No. 58. Sarkissian made the final of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional and the consolation final of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships, where he lost to No. 1 Clay Thompson in three sets.
In-state foe Cal (No. 16) is the highest ranked school not hosting a Regional and had three players win 12 matches during the fall. Senior Campbell Johnson (No. 74) and freshman Andre Goransson (No. 85) earned national rankings and Chase Melton and Gregory Bayane won the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championship for the Bears.
Alabama (No. 33) and San Diego (No. 41) will compete in the other semifinal. The Crimson Tide are represented strongly by Daniil Proskura (No. 14) and Becker O’Shaughnessey (No. 51), who pair up to be the No. 57 doubles team in the country. No. 27 Clarke Spinosa is the top singles player for the Toreros, having reached the Round of 16 at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships and only losing matches to Top 15 opponents.
