Arguably the most improved college tennis player during the fall season was North Carolina junior Lauren McHale. The younger sister of pro Christina McHale was unranked at the end of 2010-11 after spending much of the season as the Tar Heels’ No. 5 singles player.
She’s now North Carolina’s No. 1 and the nation’s No. 16 after posting a 15-5 fall record, defeating seven other ranked players, winning the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional title and reaching the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoors. The Tar Heels return all but one starter from their 2010-11 squad, and have more than capably filled that void with freshman Caroline Price, who is ranked 55th in the country.
