FLUSHING, NY – Vanderbilt’s Astra Sharma and Georgia Tech’s Christopher Eubanks were presented with the USTA/ITA Sportsmanship Awards on Saturday, following their respective singles semifinal contests at the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
The USTA/ITA Sportsmanship Awards, as voted on by the coaches in attendance, are awarded to one women’s player and one men’s player that display good sportsmanship both on and off the court during the week of competition at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Sharma, who became the first player in Vanderbilt women’s tennis history to reach the semifinal round at the National Indoors, fell to North Carolina’s Hayley Carter in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
The big-serving, hard-hitting Eubanks made his second consecutive National Indoors semifinal appearance in 2016. He dropped a competitive match to Michael Redlicki of Arkansas 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4).
