DePauw Set to Host 2012 ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship
National event returns to Greencastle

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Eight of the top 16 teams in the latest Campbell/ITA Division III Women’s Team Rankings will compete in the 2012 ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship, hosted by DePauw University at the Indoor Tennis and Track Center in Greencastle, Ind., March 2-4. The defending champion Emory Eagles are not in the field this year, meaning a new champion will be crowned. Half of the teams in the draw currently sit inside the top 10 of the national rankings, which should result in a number of highly competitive matches.

Friday features two sessions of matches, one at 10:00 am (ET) and the other at 3:30 pm (ET). In the day’s opening session, second seed Denison is set to take on seven seed Washington U, and three seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be up against six seed Carnegie Mellon. The Denison Big Red enters the 2012 ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship having played just two matches so far, getting swept by nationally ranked Division II opponent California (PA) 9-0 and slipping by Case Western 5-4. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas are off to a hot start this season at 3-0, including an impressive 7-2 defeat of Cal State L.A., a top 20 team in the Campbell/ITA Division II Women’s Team Rankings.

In the second session, top-seeded Chicago is slated to play host team and eight seed DePauw, while four seed Washington & Lee will be in action against five seed Johns Hopkins. The Chicago Maroons will be looking to go one step farther than they did a season ago, falling to Emory in a thrilling championship match, 5-4. Chicago already has a Division I win under its belt, knocking off Ball State 4-3. The Washington & Lee Generals begin the tournament with a deceiving 1-2 record overall, dropping a pair of matches to Division I in-state foes Radford and James Madison.

The winners of Friday’s matches advance to the semifinals, which are scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 pm (ET). The championship match will take place on Sunday at 10:00 am (ET).
