2009 TEAM HIGHLIGHTS: Won the most matches of any Husky team since the 2004 squad which made the NCAA Quarterfinals … only played seven of their 23 matches at home, going 7-4 in away matches and 4-0 in neutral site matches … were ranked a season-high 23rd on March 3 … went 13-1 against non-conference opponents … scored at least two points in all but one match, at 6-1 loss at Stanford … went 10-7 against ranked opponents and were 14-1 when winning the doubles point.
PLAYER/COACH HIGHLIGHTS: Sophomore Venise Chan ascended to a career-high No. 18 singles ranking as of April 21 … Chan went 20-3 at No. 1 singles with wins over the top players from Stanford, UCLA, USC, and twice against California … defeated nine ranked players, including six currently in the Top-40, and two in the Top-10 … freshman Denise Dy has been ranked throughout the season, with a high of 59th … Dy and junior Joyce Ardies came together at No. 1 doubles midway through the season, and have gone 9-1 thus far, jumping up to a No. 36 ranking … coach Hultquist is on the verge of leading the team to its second straight NCAA tourney appearance after taking over a rebuilding project in 2006.
