2009 TEAM HIGHLIGHTS: Started slowly with a 1-6 mark, but rebounded to win 22 of their last 23 matches to enter the NCAAs with a 24-8 mark. It’s the third 20-plus-win record for the program since 2005. Army enjoyed an 18-match win streak stretching from Feb. 22-April 4. The team went undefeated against Patriot League competition going 5-0 in the regular season for the seventh-straight year. The top-seeded Black Knights then went on to capture a fifth consecutive Patriot League title by way of a 4-1 win over No. 2 and host Bucknell on April 26. It marked Army’s 10th overall conference title and punched the Black Knights’ ticket to a ninth NCAA appearance.
PLAYER/COACH HIGHLIGHTS: In his 14 years at West Point, head coach Paul Peck is the longest tenured and winningest coach in Patriot League and school history...Sophomore Annie Houghton tops the singles lineup with a 28-12 mark to land rank fourth in Army single-season history. Her 18 wins in dual matches at No. 1 are also new Army record. She is a three-time defending Patriot League Player of the Month...Seniors Niki Flach (3rd) and Sarah Giles-Madden (9th), along with junior Kristin Beehler (t-5th) all cracked Army’s top-10 for career doubles wins this season...Sophomore Robie Verano has not lost a singles match since Feb. 8, having won her last 12-straight for the team’s longest active singles win streak heading into the NCAAs. Classmate Michael Tollerton has won 10 singles matches in a row.
