College Tennis Chair Umpire Workshop held at Baylor University
Baylor men's tennis is offering a unique workshop for tennis officials, the first of its kind, during the annual HEB Fall Men's Tournament, Sept. 26-28. The workshop, designed to broaden the pool and continue to upgrade the quality of ITA specific chair umpires, will be conducted the first two days of the tournament, Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27.
Selected participants must be USTA and ITA certified and have a desire to work NCAA Division I tennis matches.
The event will afford participant to:
- Work one of the largest Fall ITA events, which features over 25 nationally ranked players.
- Gain valuable experience by serving as chair umpire on multiple Division I men's matches over a two-day period.
In addition, no USTA numerical evaluations will be given and all supervisors and instructors are individuals who actually hire ITA chair umpires.
The coordinators of the event hire over 500 ITA certified chair umpire positions in Texas each year, including many postseason opportunities. Officials are looking at both new officials with high "fast track" potential as well as under utilized officials with more experience.
"This is a unique opportunity for current officials to gain experience serving as ITA certified chair umpires. This is the most exciting spot in tennis officiating and being able to gain experience with high-level competition will benefit these officials greatly," said Matt Knoll, Baylor's Director of Tennis Operations and men's head coach.
For more information regarding this opportunity, please contact the Baylor men's tennis office at 254-710-4659.
