ITA/NAIA Realignment Restructuring

Objective:
To increase recognition for NAIA institutions who are ITA members by expanding the structure of the ITA Awards and Rankings Program to also include Regional and National awards and rankings.

Current Structure:
Within NAIA, the ITA currently recognizes only National winners. National Awards include: Rookie of the Year (men & women), Player to Watch (men & women), Player of the Year (men & women), Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Sportsmanship & Leadership (men & women), Assistant Coach of the Year (men & women) and the ITA/Wilson Coach of the Year (men & women). Selections are completed by the national awards selection committee within each gender and each selection committee consists of approximately 5-8 coaches. For National Rankings, the ITA currently publishes only national singles and doubles rankings, with the NAIA being responsible for National Team Rankings.

NEW Structure:
To be implemented immediately for the sole purpose of the ITA Awards and Rankings Programs, the proposed structure to align the NAIA – ITA membership into four (4) Regions. The new Regions have been identified by roman numerals (I, II, III, IV) and the alignment criteria is based on geographic location of this membership as well as giving appropriate consideration to Conference affiliation. This alignment is based on current ITA membership with the understanding that the ITA-NAIA Small College Operating Committee will review this structure at the beginning of the 2009 fall season for the upcoming academic year.
