Williams, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Earn Top ITA Division III National Team Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ (April 10) - The Williams women registered three Top 10 wins in the past two weeks to unseat Johns Hopkins and join the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men as the No. 1 teams in the ITA Division III National Team Rankings.

 

The six-time defending NCAA champion Ephs won their 21st consecutive match dating back to last season to maintain their 12-0 record in the 2013-14 season. Williams bested No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and No. 8 Middlebury to earn the top spot. Previous No. 1 Johns Hopkins dropped its first match of the season to No. 3 Emory, who moved to No. 2 this week.

 

On the men's side, the Stags improved to 20-1 and maintained their perfect record against Division III competition to hold the No. 1 rankings. Skidmore and Carleton both improved five spots this week. The No. 14 Thoroughbreds defeated four ranked opponents in the past two weeks, including then No. 14 Trinity, 6-3. The Knights picked up two more wins to improve to 12-2, with a 6-0 record in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.

Follow the Leader: For the women, Williams is followed by (in order): Emory, Johns Hopkins, Amherst, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona-Pitzer, Bowdoin, Carnegie Mellon, Washington University-St. Louis and 
Middlebury. On the men's side, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is followed by Wash U.-St. Louis, Amherst, Emory, Williams, Johns Hopkins, Trinity (TX), Middlebury, Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve.

 

Double-Dip: This week, eight schools have both their men's and women's programs ranked inside the Top 10.

Top 30 Newcomers: The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's team earned its highest ranking of the season at No. 25, having defeated No. 22 Denison. Four men's teams entered the ITA Division III National Men's Team Rankings. DePauw heads the pack at No. 23 after going 4-0 during their spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. Joining them in the rankings are Trinity (CT), Tufts and Wesleyan at Nos. 27, 28 and 29, respectively.
