Unbeaten Stanford, Virginia Maintain Campbell/ITA No. 1 Team Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Just as the 2010-11 season began, the Stanford women and Virginia men, the nation's only undefeated teams, are back in control of the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings.

Playing its first match as the nation's top-ranked team since Feb. 26, Stanford (18-0), beat their third-consecutive top 15-opponent this weekend, with a 6-1 defeat over a rising Arizona State team. The Sun Devils kept things interesting early on, taking the doubles point with wins on courts two and three and putting the Pac-10 leaders in a rare 1-0 deficit.
With the victory, the Cardinal have now won 37 consecutive contests dating back to a 6-1 loss at UCLA in late February of last year.

An even more impressive streak that Stanford continues to extend is its NCAA-record home winning streak of 175 consecutive matches (143 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament). The streak spans 12 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.

Meanwhile, the Virginia men took to its home courts for the first time in six weeks, facing off against the two other remaining undefeated teams in conference play. The Cavs made quick work of No. 10 Duke, 6-1, followed by another dominating performance in a 5-2 win over No. 17 North Carolina. With the wins, UVA (22-0) extended their ACC-record win streak to 70 consecutive victories while pushing their school-record home winning streak to 85 matches.
