TEMPE, Ariz. –
For the second straight year Sewanee: The University of the South serves as host to the 10th annual ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship. 

Featuring eight of the top teams in Division III, the 2018 tournament gets underway on Friday, March 2, and runs through Sunday, March 4, with action taking place at the McCallie School and The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A third site, Manker Patten, will be used for the seventh-place match on Sunday. The McCallie School will see both semifinals and the championship match take place on its courts.

Defending National Team Indoors champion Emory headlines the list of 2018 competitors. The Eagles are the No. 1 seed in the eight-team field. They’ll take on the host and No. 8 seed Sewanee in the opening round. Pomona-Pitzer, winners of the 2016 event and runners-up to Emory in 2017, are the No. 2 seed. The Sagehens play No. 7 Johns Hopkins on Friday. The No. 3-No. 6 matchup features Chicago and Washington & Lee University, while No. 4 Carnegie Mellon University faces No. 5 Washington University in St. Louis.

Four of the eight teams in the 2018 ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship are ranked in the Top 10 of the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division III Women’s National Team Rankings, with Emory at No. 2, Pomona-Pitzer at No. 6, Chicago at No. 9 and Carnegie Mellon at No. 10. The trio of Washington University in St. Louis, Washington & Lee University and Johns Hopkins sit just outside the Top 10 in the No.’s 11-13 spots, respectively, with Sewanee: The University of the South also in the Top 20 at No. 17.

Emory (2017, 2011, 2010) and Johns Hopkins (2013-15) have each won the ITA Division III National Women’s Team Indoor Championship three times. Carnegie Mellon (2009), Pomona-Pitzer (2016) and Washington & Lee (2012) all have one ITA National Team Indoor championship.
