The Oklahoma State Cowgirls open their season with three home matches – a doubleheader on Friday against Oral Roberts and Louisiana Tech, and a final match on Saturday morning against North Texas – the PlaySight/ITA Women’s Match of the Week.
Oklahoma State had a tremendous 2016 season and it is of little surprise that they enter this season ranked No. 5 in the nation, especially considering that they are returning five contributing letter winners from the team that was runner up at the NCAA Championships.
From the official Oklahoma State athletics website:
The OSU roster is headlined by three standout seniors in Katarina Adamovic, Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari. Adamovic is coming off an impressive junior season that saw the Cacak, Serbia native earn her first ITA All-American honor by way of advancing to the NCAA individual quarterfinals last summer. A two-time All-American and the 2015 Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, Lushkova has been a key to the Cowgirls' unprecedented success as well, riding into the fall season on an 18-match win streak. Tur Mari provided a major boost to the back end of the OSU singles lineup in 2016, going 22-8 in the No. 6 spot.
The Cowgirls will look to take advantage of their home courts – something they have done with great regularity recently.
Since it opened for the 2013-14 season, the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center has proven a tough place to play for Cowgirl opponents. After an undefeated 18-0 mark at home last year, OSU has racked up a 37-2 overall record in the facility over the last three seasons.
North Texas finished last season with a 13-10 record and the No. 73 position in the final Oracle/ITA national team rankings. The young Mean Green roster has three freshmen and four sophomores, and they are led by 11-year head coach Jeff Hammond.
