TEMPE, Ariz. – Tyler Junior College sits atop both the men’s and women’s national team rankings as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2016 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis JUCO Fall Rankings on October 16.
In the men’s team rankings, defending NJCAA National Champion, ASA Miami, sits at No. 2, followed by Seminole State at No. 3, ABAC at No. 4 and Seward at No. 5. The No.’s 2-5 spots in the women’s team rankings features the State College of Florida, defending NJCAA National Champion ASA Miami, Cowley and Seward, respectively.
Jorge Martinez of Tyler is the No. 1-ranked singles player, thanks to his victory over teammate and No. 2-ranked Ferran Calvo in the JUCO final at the 2016 ITA Oracle Cup. Martinez advanced the ITA Oracle Cup championship match, where he fell to Oliver Frank of Division II Azusa Pacific.
Carlos Anez and Ondrej Nice of Seward, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup JUCO doubles title, are the No. 1-ranked team.
The women’s singles rankings are led by ITA Oracle Cup JUCO singles champion Maria Medina of the State College of Florida. Medina is also part of the top-ranked doubles team, along with teammate Iulia Sergheeva. The duo won the doubles title at the ITA Oracle Cup.
The next set of national rankings will be released on March 16, 2017.
