TEMPE, Ariz. – With the 2017-18 college tennis season kicking into high gear, familiar faces sit atop the singles and doubles rankings as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2017 Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Men’s Division I Preseason Rankings on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
Ohio State’s Mikael Torpegaard begins his senior season in the same place he opened his junior campaign, ranked No. 1. The three-time first team All-Big Ten selection was the No. 1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, and for the second consecutive year, concluded the season ranked No. 2 after spending time during the regular season atop the rankings. Torpegaard finished runner-up at the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship and guided the Buckeyes to their 12th straight Big Ten title in 2017.
In doubles, the Wake Forest duo of seniors Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim begin the 2017-18 season as the nation’s top-ranked doubles team. Mansouri and Seraphim won the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Doubles Championship and were ranked No. 1 at various points during the 2017 season, before concluding the year at No. 2.
The Demon Deacons are the only team with multiple players in the Top 10 of the singles ranking, with Mansouri checking in at No. 10 and teammate Petros Chrysochos, the 2016 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Singles Champion, at No. 3.
Axel Geller of Stanford is the top-ranked Freshman-Newcomer. Arizona State, which reinstated its men’s tennis program after an eight-year hiatus, sees Michael Geerts check in at No. 4 in the Freshman-Newcomer rankings.

The ITA also unveiled official selections for the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s
All-American Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Tulsa for the 11th straight year. The tournament kicks off with prequalifying matches starting on September 30, while the main draw is runs October 5-9.
The first ITA national event of the 2017-18 season takes place September 15-17, 2017, as the International Tennis Hall of Fame serves as host of the second annual Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational. Four Division I men’s teams (Georgia, Illinois, Princeton and TCU) and four Division I women’s teams (Florida, LSU, North Carolina and Princeton) will take part in the one of a kind collegiate event held on the grounds of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The preseason rankings will be the only set of rankings released during the fall season, with the Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings set to return the first week of January 2018.
