TEMPE, Ariz. – Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division III National Team Rankings on Thursday, and there’s a new No. 1-ranked team on the women’s side.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, with an unblemished record of 23-0, moved up from No. 2 into the top spot this week. The Athenas defeated Division I foe UC Irvine 8-1 on April 22, and topped No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer 6-3 on April 20.
Middlebury College also moved up one place in the rankings this week, going from No. 3 to No. 2, while former No. 1 Emory fell two spots to No. 3. Carnegie Mellon is the lone new addition to the Top 10, climbing one spot from No. 11 to No. 10.
On the men’s side, Middlebury remained No. 1, as victories over No. 7 Bowdoin and No. 13 Trinity (TX) helped offset a narrow 5-4 loss to No. 5 (then No. 8) Wesleyan on April 23.
Emory and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps remain No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, with Washington University in St. Louis at No. 4 and the aforementioned Wesleyan at No. 5. Amherst jumped into the Top 10 this week, moving from No. 13 up to No. 8.
The final set of national rankings will be released on June 1, 2017.
