SKILLMAN, NJ – The inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters is set to begin play Friday, hosted by the Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, California, with Pepperdine University serving as an official event partner. The Oracle/ITA Masters marks the first national collegiate championship of the 2015-16 season.
Sixteen of the top returning Division I men’s and women’s singles players will compete, along with eight outstanding men’s and women’s doubles teams. Each participant is guaranteed two matches.
Official draws for men’s singles and doubles, as well as women’s singles and doubles, were officially announced today by Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. You can view the draws on the Oracle/ITA Masters event page http://www.itatennis.com/Events/Oracle_ITA_Masters.htm.
Play begins on Friday at 10 a.m. PT with eight men’s singles matches. Oklahoma’s Axel Alvarez Llamas, the top-ranked player in the 2015 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men’s Preseason Rankings, is the top seed in the men’s singles draw. Alvarez Llamas, who won his second straight USTA/ITA Central Regional Singles Championship in 2014, rattled off 23 consecutive victories in the spring and finished the year with a 39-6 record. Ryan Shane of Virginia, the 2015 NCAA National Singles Champion, is the No. 2 seed. Shane helped guide the Cavaliers to the 2015 NCAA Team National Championship over Alvarez Llamas and the Sooners 4-1. Baylor’s Julian Lenz is seeded third and Notre Dame’s Quentin Monaghan is the fourth seed.
Women’s singles competition is slated to commence at Noon, PT, on Friday. Megan Manasse of Cal, ranked No. 4 in the 2015 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings, holds the No. 1 seed in the Oracle/ITA Masters tournament. She sports a career record of 71-16 in singles play and 56-17 in doubles at Cal. Stephanie Wagner of Miami (FL) is seeded second, Vanderbilt’s Sydney Campbell is the No.3 seed and Danielle Collins of Virginia is the No. 4 seed.
Following singles play is doubles, beginning with four men’s matches starting at 2 p.m. PT. The No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men’s Preseason Rankings are both competing in Malibu. Austin Smith and Ben Wagland of Georgia are the No. 1 seed, with Virginia’s Shane and Luca Corinteli the No. 2 seed.
Women’s doubles gets underway at 4 p.m. PT. Cal’s Manasse and Denise Starr are the top-ranked team in the draw and hold the No. 3 ranking in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings. Vanderbilt’s Campbell and Courtney Colton will be the No. 2 seed in the Oracle/ITA Masters.
