MEN’S RANKINGS / WOMEN’S RANKINGS


SKILLMAN, NJ – Georgia Gwinnett holds the top spot in three of the four national singles and doubles rankings, as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2015-16 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis NAIA Fall National Rankings on Tuesday.

Kevin Konfederak
is the No. 1-ranked men’s singles player, and he also is No. 1 in doubles along with teammate Jordan Cox, the nation’s No. 2-ranked singles player. Valeria Podda of Georgia Gwinnett earned the top billing in the women’s singles rankings.

The top-ranked women’s doubles team is Indiana Wesleyan University duo Katie Wilson and Lucia Solis.

Konfederak, who finished the 2014-15 season ranked No. 5 nationally, won the NAIA singles draw and the Super Bowl singles title at the 2015 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships in October in Sumter, South Carolina. The Super Bowl victory earned him a spot at the recently-completed 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, New York. In addition to competing in NIIC in singles, Konfederak and Cox also took part in doubles thanks to their NSCC Super Bowl title. The duo reached the quarterfinal round before being eliminated.

Oscar Mancineiras Cornella of Olivet Nazarene is ranked No. 3 in the men’s singles rankings, while David Veliz (No. 4) of Southeastern University and Spartak Rahachou (No. 5) of Baker University round out the top 5.

Daniel Rueda and Thommy Johnasson of Northwestern Ohio are the men’s No. 2-ranked doubles team. Georgia Gwinnett’s Matias Hatem and Lachlan McPhee are No. 3, with San Diego Christian’s Brendan Aguilar and Leonardo Urquidi and Alessandro Moriano and Daniel Superlano are No. 4 and 5, respectively.

In women’s singles, Podda earned the No. 1 position thanks in part to her victory in the NAIA singles draw at the NSCC. The Grizzlies have a second player in the top 5 of the national singles rankings, as Alyona Vasilyeva holds the No. 5 position. Sandwiched between the two Georgia Gwinnett players are Camile Gbaguidi of Savannah College of Art & Design (No. 2), Priscila Nunez of Olivet Nazarene University (No. 3) and Lauren Stratman of Westmont College (No. 4).

Cumberland University’s Angelica Sepulveda and Tarsha De Souza are the second-ranked women’s doubles team, followed by two Georgia Gwinnett teams; Podda and Helga Pinones Haltenhoff and Vasileva and Chiara Di Salvo. Westmont College’s Stratman and Isabel Lee are the No. 5 team.
