BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The ITA/USTA National Summer Championships wrapped up the first day of competition in Bloomington on Saturday.
Rain forced play inside for the morning and much of the afternoon before heading outside.
On the men’s side No. 1 seed Sam Monette from Indiana advanced to the third round with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 victory over Joshua Yablon from Princeton. No. 2 seed Zach McCourt from Princeton also advanced to the third set in a three set, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 victory over Dominic Patric from Iowa in round two. Sam Shropshire, the No. 3 seed advanced in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Patrick Elliott.
On the women’s side the duo from Vanderbilt, the top two seeds, No. 1 seed Francis Altick and No. 2 seed Sydney Campbell advanced to the third round with quick 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 victories. Unseeded Jerricka Boon from Illinois upset No. 3 seed Zoe Katz of USC 7-5, 0-6, 10-7 in the round of 64.
Play will continue tomorrow in Bloomington at 8:30 a.m.
