Duke, Ohio State remain atop ITA Division I Team Rankings

Virginia men move up eight spots to No. 2

SKILLMAN, NJ (March 4) The Ohio State men and Duke women sit atop the ITA Division I National Team Rankings for the third and fourth straight week, respectively, as both teams went undefeated during the week.

 

The Blue Devils kept their No. 1 spot after winning their second match of the year over in-state rival North Carolina last weekend. Alabama jumped up to No. 4 in the rankings, up from No. 10 last week while Florida improved three spots to land at No. 2.

 

On the men's side, the defending NCAA Champion Virginia men climbed eight spots after registering two Top 10 wins over Baylor and Notre Dame. Duke returned to the Top 10 for the first time since January 2, having posted two shutout wins during the week.

 

Follow the Leader: For the men, Ohio State is followed by (in order): Virginia, UCLA, Oklahoma, USC, Illinois, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Duke. On the women's side, Duke is followed by Florida, UCLA, Alabama, Virginia, USC, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Stanford and Texas A&M.

 

Conference Count: Men's Top 25: SEC - 7; ACC - 6; Big 12 - 4; Pac-12 and Big Ten - 3; MWC and AAC - 1. Five different conferences are represented in the Top 10. Women's Top 25: ACC and SEC - 7; Pac 12 - 4; Big 12 - 3, Big Ten - 2; Conference USA and AAC - 1. The SEC has four teams in the Top 10, while the Pac 12 has three, and the ACC has two.

 

Double-Dip: This week, 15 schools have both their men's and women's programs ranked inside the Top 25.

Top 25 Caliber: The Houston women entered the Top 25 for the first time since the computer rankings began, landing at No. 21 on the heels of their upset of No. 17 Tulsa for their highest ranked win of the season. Florida State slipped into the Top 25 for the first time since January 21, jumping nine spots. Kentucky (No. 22) also moved into the Top 25 while Texas returned to the Top 25, landing at No. 24.

 

For the men, Georgia (No. 16) shot up 19 spots after shutout wins over both Georgia Tech and Tennessee to rebound from a tough outing at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Memphis (No. 25) also moved back into the Top 25 after a one-week absence.
