 Armstrong Atlantic Claims Top Spots in ITA Division II College Tennis Rankings 

ITA Division II Men’s Team Ranking | ITA Division II Women’s Team Ranking


SKILLMAN, NJ (Feb. 27) -- The first ITA Division II National Team Ranking of 2013 has been released, with the Armstrong Atlantic men and women claiming the top spots.  For the men, it is the fifth consecutive time they have been voted as the No. 1 team in the nation, while the women have been selected as the top team in three straight ranking releases.  

Follow the Leader: For the men, following Armstrong Atlantic is (in order): West Florida, Lynn, Barry, Hawaii Pacific, Rollins, Columbus State, Lander, Augusta State, and Oklahoma Christian.  For the women, following Armstrong Atlantic is: BYU Hawaii, Abilene Christian, Barry, Hawaii Pacific, Columbus State, Saint Leo, Lynn, California (PA), and West Florida.

Conference Count: Men’s Top 25: Peach Belt – 6; Pac-West and Sunshine State – 4; Lone Star – 3; Gulf South and Heartland – 2; Great America, CACC, GLVC, and MIAA – 1.  Four Peach Belt teams are ranked inside the Top 10 as are three Sunshine State teams.  Women’s Top 25: Sunshine State – 8; Peach Belt – 4; Pac-West – 3; Lone Star – 2; PSAC, Gulf Coast, Heartland, GLVC, ECC, and MIAA – 1. There are also two schools that are Independent that are in the women’s Top 25. Three Sunshine State teams are ranked inside the Top 10 as are two Peach Belt and Pac-West teams. 

Double-Dip: A total of 14schools have both their men’s and women’s programs ranked inside the Top 25. Armstrong Atlantic, Barry, Columbus State, Hawaii Pacific, Lynn, and West Florida find both their men’s and women’s team inside the Top 10.

Top 25 Caliber: Four men’s teams have cracked the Top 25 in this week’s ranking.  Oklahoma Christian, Azusa Pacific, and Fresno Pacific all made their first ITA Division II team ranking appearance while USC Aiken jumped 12 spots, landing at No. 23.  On the women’s side, two new teams are inside the Top 25 as Tampa and Palm Beach Atlantic made their first appearances of 2013.  Tampa checked-in at No. 26 in the ITA preseason ranking back in November but wins over a pair of Top 20 teams and a victory against No. 40 Flagler has propelled the Spartans to No. 15.  Similarly, Palm Beach Atlantic moved ahead six spots as they came in at No. 27 in the preseason ranking. 

Top 50 Newcomers: The first 2013 ITA team ranking has allowed for nine teams to make their debut inside the Top 50.
