ITA/USTA National Summer Championships Results - Day 1

 

BLOOMINGTON, IN (August 10) - The ITA/USTA National Summer Championships got underway today as the event caps off a great summer of tennis action in the 2013 ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA.

Women's Main Draw Recap

The top two seeds on the women's draw, Ronit Yurovski (Michigan) and Alex Cercone (Florida), both advanced to the third round of the 2013 ITA National Collegiate Summer Championship in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday.

 

The third seed Joelle Kissell (NC State) was upset in the second round by Blair Shankle (Baylor) while No. 4 seed Kelsey Laurente (Miami) won against jennifer Pfeifler (Auburn) to advance. Overall, 14 of the top 16 seeds on the women's side advanced.

Each of the top three seeds have moved on to the third round of the men's main draw at the 2013 ITA National Collegiate Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday. Overall, 11 of the top 16 seeds on the men's side survived the first day to remain in the main draw.

 

Top seed Chris Diaz (Ohio State) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win against Andrew Cahn (Western Michigan) in his second round match. The second seed, Adam Lee (Wake Forest), also handily won his only match of the day against Adam Krull (Xavier) by a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Since its inception in 1993, nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in the ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA. Providing college and junior athletes (along with alumni) the opportunity to compete in organized events year round, the Circuit remains open to anyone as long as he/she is a current ITA member. There are nine regional circuits that span across the United States, which include thirty-five different tournaments. These open tournaments culminate with the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, on August 10-13. Everyone is eligible to enter the National Summer Championships.
