W&L's Ishida Recognized as USTA/Virginia Tennis College Coach of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – Washington and Lee women's tennis Head Coach Eric Ishida was recently recognized as the United States Tennis Association/Virginia Tennis 2010 College Coach of the Year, while W&L graduate Ginny Wortham, '07, was named the Tournament Player of the Year.

Ishida, in his fourth year at the helm, led the Generals to a No. 9 national and No. 3 Atlantic South ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll last season after the squad finished 19-7 overall, including a perfect 10-0 in conference play, en route to capturing the program's 20th conference title. Ishida was named the ODAC Coach of the Year during the 2010 campaign, the third time he received the honor, while also being recognized as the ITA Atlantic South Region Coach of the Year.  During his tenure, Ishida has led the Generals to a 66-13 overall record, three ODAC titles and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

During her four seasons at W&L, Wortham was a four-time All-ODAC honoree, three-time All-American and the recipient of the 2007 ODAC Scholar-Athlete Award and she earned ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-American accolades. For her career, Wortham posted an 88-19 (.822) singles record and a 93-21 (.816) doubles record. Her 88 singles victories rank seventh all-time at W&L, while her 93 doubles wins are tied for fifth.
