Sacred Heart Men, Fairleigh Dickinson Women Earn Top Seeds In Northeast Conference Tennis Championship

Somerset, NJ -- The Sacred Heart men and Fairleigh Dickinson women have been awarded the top seeds in the 2010 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tennis Championship, set to commence on Friday, April 16 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ.

Under the direction of Paul Gagliardi, Sacred Heart is the defending NEC men's champion and has posted a 14-7 record thus far in 2009-10.  The Pioneers are 4-0 against NEC opposition, including wins over #2 seed Fairleigh Dickinson, #3 seed Quinnipiac and #4 seed Monmouth.

Long Island is the reigning NEC women's champion and finds itself seeded second behind top-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson.  FDU recently defeated Long Island, 4-3, and also stopped perennial contender and #3 seed Quinnipiac, 5-2.  The Knights are 14-4 on the year and 5-0 against league rivals.

In one of the NEC's enduring rivalries, Long Island and Quinnipiac have met in the women's conference championship match in each of the last six years.  The Bobcats won five straight NEC crowns from 2004-08, before the Blackbirds broke through for their first league title in 2009.
