Roger Follmer Captures Career Win No. 150 at UAA Championship
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Head coach Roger Follmer picked up career win number 150 as the top-seeded and defending champion Washington University in St. Louis men’s tennis team defeated No. 5 seed Brandeis University, 5-1, in the semifinals at the 2010 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Washington University (15-3) takes on No. 2 seed Emory University on Sunday at 9 a.m. (ET), in the UAA Championship match. The Eagles defeated No. 3 seed and host Carnegie Mellon University, 5-1, in the other semifinal match. This marks the fifth-straight and 16thoverall meeting between Emory and Washington U. in the conference title match.
Juniors Isaac Stein and Max Woods, the No. 3 ranked team in Division III, cruised through its doubles match with an 8-2 victory to make it 1-0. The victory improved Stein and Woods’ overall record to 21-6 this season. The duo of senior Danny Levy and sophomore Cameron Chiang extended the lead to 2-0, posting an 8-5 win at third doubles.
After dropping the No. 2 doubles match to make it 2-1, the Bears wasted no time in sealing the match with three singles victories. Senior John Watts (No. 1, 6-0, 6-0), Stein (No. 2, 6-2, 6-2) and Woods (No. 4, 6-1, 6-3) all notched wins for the Bears.
