The University of Saint Francis has selected an undisputed leader in Indiana tennis to run its newly-announced Men’s Tennis Program.

Jim Clark, who recently retired as the Head Boys’ Tennis Coach at Homestead High School for the past 31 years, has agreed to serve as USF’s Men’s Tennis Coach, re-starting a program that was first started in 1977, but discontinued in the mid-80s.

“We have found the perfect man to help us jump-start USF Men’s Tennis,” said Mark A. Pope, USF Director of Athletics. “Jim’s accomplishments and success make him a legend in our community. I cannot think of a better person to organize, develop and run our program.”

Clark’s success at Homestead is indeed legendary. Over his 31 years, Homestead’s teams won 31 consecutive sectionals, 29 NEIAC and NHC conference championships, 28 Regionals and 18 Semi-State championships. His teams included 6 Mental Attitude Award winners. Clark was named Indiana State Coach of the Year in both 1997 and 2009, and he was inducted into the IHSTECA Hall of Fame in 1997. Clark was named the Coach of the Year by the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association in 1997 and has also been honored by his alma mater, Ball State University, which selected him as their Alumni Coach of the Year in 1999, 2006 and 2009.

“I am excited to begin this new chapter in my career,” said Clark. “At USF, I have the opportunity to develop a program from scratch and begin competing in the difficult Mid-Central College Conference in six short months. We have a lot of work to do, but USF will be ready to compete.”

USF will compete in 16 NAIA athletic programs sponsored (including football and women’s golf) by NAIA including all 14 offered in the Mid-Central College Conference with the addition of the men’s tennis program. The MCC does not sponsor women’s golf or footbal
