ITA Announces John Embree as Director of ITA Endowment Fund Campaign
SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the appointment of John Embree, who most recently served as the President of the Americas for Prince Sports until June of 2010, and will now be taking on the consulting role of Director of ITA Endowment Fund Campaign.
"I am delighted to take on the responsibility of serving as the new Director of the ITA Endowment Fund Campaign", Embree said. "The opportunity to raise money on behalf of the ITA so that we can protect and preserve collegiate varsity tennis programs on a permanent basis will be a big challenge. We are going to reach out to those individuals within the tennis community nationwide who value the collegiate experience and want to ensure that college tennis remains vibrant and healthy."
Embree played collegiate tennis at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, where he served as Captain his junior and senior years and was named NCAA Division III ITA All-America Honorable Mention in 1975. John used his passion for tennis to parlay a 30-plus year career in the tennis industry. Not only has he been a teaching professional (Head Pro at the Boonsboro CC in Lynchburg, VA and Director of Tennis/GM of the Rivercenter Tennis and Health Club in New Orleans, LA), he also launched the most successful USTA adult program when he served as the first USTA National League Administrator for the USTA League program from 1980-1982.
However, John Embree is most noted for his long time service on the branding side of the industry, having worked over 17 years at Wilson Sporting Goods, including his role as VP/GM of the Global Racquet Sports division. In addition, he served in the role of President/CEO of Balle de Match, a tennis apparel brand for years, before his most recent position of President of the Americas for Prince Sports.
During his extensive career, John has always found time to give back to the sport he loves, sitting on a multitude of USTA National Committees, and helping local grassroots organizations such as the Chicago Tennis Patrons (President from 2003-04) and the Board of Directors of Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education in Philadelphia.
"Anyone who has played college tennis understands how that experience has such a positive impact on their life, both professionally and personally" said Embree. "It is vital that we be able to protect and secure the future of college tennis for generations to come. I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to assist in that endeavor."
"The ITA is delighted to add such an outstanding and influential figure in the tennis community as John to our team", said ITA Executive Director David A Benajmin. "The time has come to reinvigorate the ITA Endowment Fund Campaign and I am confident that John will be highly successful in this important role."
