Hirshman Named USA Team Captain For 2011 World University Games

Senior Greg Hirshman has been selected to Team USA's roster for the 2011 World University Games and will serve as captain of the squad.

STANFORD, Calif.-
 Senior Greg Hirshman has been selected to Team USA's roster for the 2011 World University Games and will serve as captain of the squad.

Hirshman will accompany eight other student-athletes to represent the United States at the Summer Games in Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 12-23, 2011. There will be over 9,000 student-athletes from 174 different countries competing in the World University Games.

The World University Games is an international sporting and cultural festival, which is staged every two years in a different city and ranks second in importance only to the Olympic Games.

The tennis tournament will consist of two men's and women's singles, one men's and women's doubles team and one mixed doubles team. Our country receives points for every round we advance in a division with more points being emphasized on the deeper rounds. At the conclusion of the tournament, the country with the highest point totals wins the Gold. Second and third place will receive the Silver and Bronze, respectively.

Also competing on the Team USA squad are the following: Michael Sicora (Minnesota), Phillip Ardnt (Minnesota), Eric Quigley (Kentucky), Aeriel Ellis (Texas), McCall Jones (UCLA), Krista Damico (Texas), Courtney Collins (Memphis) and Maria Sanchez (USC).
