Defending NCAA DII Champs Continue to top Men’s and Women’s Spring Rankings

 

SKILLMAN, N.J. – Another month, same familiar name sits atop the Division II Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings as both the men’s and women’s squads from Armstrong Atlantic State University remain No. 1 -- right where the left off at the end of the 2009 campaign, which saw both squads hoist the NCAA Division II team title for the second year in a row.

 

Both teams remain undefeated during the 2009-10 campaign, each sporting 20-0 records and carrying tremendous win streaks. The men are currently riding a 43-match win streak while the Lady Pirates have amassed 72 straight regular season victories with no signs of stopping.

Follow the Leader:
For the men, following Armstrong Atlantic is (in order): Valdosta State, Lynn, Ouachita Baptist, Barry, Hawaii Pacific, Florida Southern, Rollins, West Florida and Columbus State. On the women's side, the Lady Pirates are followed by: Lynn, BYU-Hawaii, Barry, Columbus State, Valdosta State, Abilene Christian, California of PA, Rollins and West Florida.

Conference Count: Men's Top 25: Peach Belt – 6; Gulf South and Sunshine State – 4; Carolinas, Heartland and Lone Star – 2; GLIAC, GLVC, MAIAA, NYCAC and Pacific West - 1. The Gulf South, Peach Belt and Sunshine State Conferences each placed three teams among the top 11. Women’s Top 25: Sunshine State – 5; Peach Belt – 4; CCAA, Gulf South and Lone Star – 3; Heartland and Pacific West – 2, GLIAC, GLVC and PSAC – 1.  The Gulf South and Sunshine State Conferences each have three teams among the top 10.

Of the sixteen teams comprising the top 25 in both sets of rankings, an astounding half of them (eight) are included in the top 10 of both, including Armstrong Atlantic sitting atop of both.
