Anderson Advances to Second Round of BNP Paribas Open to Face Isner

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Former Illini All-American Kevin Anderson defeated qualifier Bjorn Phau, 6-3, 6-3 Thursday to advance to the second round of the 2010 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. With the win, Anderson moves on to face 15th-seeded John Isner on Saturday.

Anderson, who is currently ranked No. 127 in the world, earned his entry into the main draw after defeating Sebastien Grosjean, 6-3, 7-6 (5), and Ryan Sweeting, 6-3, 7-6 (7) in the qualifying round earlier in the week.

Fellow former Illini and 79th-ranked Rajeev Ram fell 6-1, 6-3 to Daniel Koellerer in his first-round match, but will have another shot in doubles with teammate Eric Butorac. The duo drew top-seeded Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the first round.
