Sugiyama Sets Career Singles Mark in U-M's Win Over Texas A&M

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Chisako Sugiyama (Parsippany, N.J./The Montclair Kimberley Academy) became the University of Michigan women's tennis program's all-time singles wins leader on Thursday afternoon (April 9), securing her 101st career victory during the team's 6-1 triumph over No. 33-ranked Texas A&M at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Sugiyama, who is ranked 67th nationally, earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over 112th-ranked Morgan Frank at No. 2 to surpass Sarah Cyganiak (1994-97) as the all-time winningest singles player in the 36-year history of the U-M women's tennis program. Sugiyama's remarkable career record of 101-40 also places her second on Michigan's career singles winning percentage chart (.716).
