Northwestern and Virginia remain No. 1 in Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings  

Still the One: For the sixth consecutive week, the Northwestern women remain No. 1 in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings and are joined by the Virginia men for the second straight week at the top spot. Coincidentally, both teams held the top spot in the rankings at this point last year.

Rounding Out the Top 10: On the women's side, Northwestern is followed by (in order): Georgia, California, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Duke, Baylor, UCLA, USC and Miami (FL). For the men, following Virginia is: Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Stanford, Texas, UCLA, Tennessee, Mississippi and Baylor. While the women’s top 10 remained the same, the men had a few teams swap between No. 4-8. Baylor also climbed two spots, replacing Illinois in the top ten after picking up a 4-3 win over then No. 6 UCLA.

Conference Count: Men's Top 25: SEC – 7; ACC, Big 12 and Pac-10 – 4; Big Ten – 3; Big East, Conference USA and WCC - 1. Five different conferences placed at least one team in the top 10, including three teams from the Pac-10 and SEC. Women's Top 25: ACC and SEC – 7; Pac-10 – 5; Big Ten – 2; Big 12, Big East, Mountain West and WAC – 1. Six different conferences placed at least one team in the top 10, including three teams from the ACC and Pac-10.

On the Move:
On the men’s side, 24 teams remained in the top 25 from last week’s rankings. Kentucky made the largest jump, vaulting up 10 spots to join the top 25 at No. 21. The Wildcats recorded wins over No. 4 Tennessee and No. 25 Notre Dame. UK replaced Wake Forest, which fell nine spots to 30th after losing to No. 43 Wisconsin and No. 60 Minnesota. The Wake Forest women rose an impressive eight spots to No. 23 in this week’s women’s team rankings. The Demon Deacons upset No. 24 William & Mary and No. 25 Texas A&M, each of which dropped out of the top 25 along with No. 23 LSU. In addition to Wake Forest, Florida State and Auburn slid into the top 25 at No. 24 and 25, respectively.

Twice as Nice: Fourteen schools have both their men’s and women’s programs ranked inside this week’s top 25.

Campbell Soup Company to Serve as Title Sponsor: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of college tennis, announced that a multi-year agreement has been reached between the ITA and the Campbell Soup Company in which the company will serve as the title sponsor for the ITA College Tennis Rankings and the ITA College Players of the Year awards.

Shake it Up: Each season the national team rankings begin with a series of polls and switch to a computer ranking in March (for the remainder of the season). This season’s switch occurs next week, March 3, and typically produces several changes throughout the rankings.

Next Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings: The next weekly team rankings will be released on Tuesday, March 3, as well as the next singles and doubles rankings. These rankings reflect results through Sunday, Feb. 22.
